Fraud probe launched into Blackpool Victoria Hospital

Blackpool Victoria Hospital is at the centre of a fraud investigation following a six month inquiry into improper conduct.

A member of staff at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals is being investigated over allegations of accepting money and gifts from major pharmaceutical and medical supply companies and payments made for work contractors did not carry out.

The Crown Prosecution Service is now prosecuting a senior nurse who has been suspended from their position.

A senior administrator has already resigned from their post and paid the hospital trust back the money involved.

Nick Grimshaw, Director of HR and OD for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Whilst we cannot comment on individual cases the Trust has been working extremely hard to develop an anti-fraud culture and works with the NHS counter fraud service to investigate any allegations of fraud.

"The Trust takes allegations of fraud extremely seriously and will co-operate fully with all of the relevant agencies.”
