Large quantity of cannabis found in Blackpool tanning salon

Friday, October 26th 2012 01:00

POLICE discovered a large quantity of harvested cannabis after carrying out a drugs raid on a former tanning salon.

Officers executed a drugs warrant at the Tangerine Dream Tanning Salon on Lytham Road on Wednesday evening. A search was made of the property and the cannabis was recovered from a basement room.

Police inquiries are ongoing in order to find the person responsible for the cannabis factory set up.

Detective Constable Gary Armour, Blackpool CID, said: "This was a sophisticated set up where concerted efforts have been made by those concerned to conceal the cannabis factory from local residents.

"This was a significant amount of cannabis to find and as it was harvested it had been about to make its way out on to the streets of the resort – our raid has prevented this from happening.”

There are a number of tell tale signs that cannabis is being grown in a property:

  • Strange smells and sounds coming from an address.
  • Frequent and varied visitors, often at unusual times.
  • Large amounts of gardening equipment being taken into a property.
  • Windows are sealed or a lot of heat is coming from an adjoining building.

If you have information about suspected cannabis cultivation contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. In an emergency always dial 999.
