Man admits South Shore armed raid

A man has admitted carrying out an armed robbery on a Blackpool convenience store.

A MAN has admitted carrying out an armed robbery on a Blackpool convenience store.

The town's magistrates sent Matthew Sharkey of Bond Street for sentence at Preston Crown Court.

Sharkey admitted carrying out the robbery in which he was handed £1,800 in cash by the victims who run the Smiley Store on Watson Road on January 9.

He admitted having an imitation firearm and knife during the robbery.

Sharkey also admitted possessing a knife and samurai sword when he was arrested by police on January 23 at his girlfriend's flat on Osborne Road,Blackpool.

Blackpool Magistrates said their sentencing powers were insufficient.

Sharkey was remanded in custody until he appears at the higher court on February 23.
