man dies in Prom smash

Police say they're still trying to work out how a 26 year old man died in a road smash at Starr Gate.

They closed New South Promand the tram tracksfor 6 hours yesterday after the blue MG convertible hit a lampost near the tram depot.

Now Police say they don't know whether the man is from the Fylde, and can't yet say who he is.

Sergeant John Jennings-Wharton from the Road Policing Unit said, "We are trying to establish the circumstances surrounding this collision and so I would appeal to anyone that has any information that might help to come forward.

"At the time, the car was travelling southbound along South Promenade and we are investigating the possibility that the car had travelled in to Blackpool from the Lytham area. As a result, I would also appeal specifically to anyone who thinks they may have seen this car prior to the collision anywhere between Lytham and Blackpool to contact us.”
