Man jailed for over seven years following street attack

Tuesday, October 16th 2012 01:00

A MAN who fractured another man's eye socket in a street attack has been jailed for seven years and two months.

22-year-old Joel Taylor punched the 47-year-old man following a neighbourhood dispute in Overdale Grove, Blackpool, on May 25. The victim fell to the floor, where Taylor continued to kick and punch him.

Taylor, of Amberbanks Grove, Blackpool, appeared before Preston Crown Court yesterday (Monday) and was jailed for seven years and two months for the section 18 wounding offence. He was also given a consecutive six month sentence for a breach of a suspended sentence.

Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Constable Nick Connaughton, Blackpool CID, said: "This was a violent attack that left the victim with serious facial injuries. Taylor had tried to claim he had only hit the man once, but the injuries, together with analysis of blood found on Taylor's shoes, show it was a sustained attack.

"Taylor is now behind bars for a substantial period of time and this highlights the fact that violent behaviour will not be tolerated in our communities. If you use violence you can expect the police and the courts to take robust action against you and you could face time in jail.”
