Eagle Fest has been organised by a family from Cleveleys in memory of a Fylde Coast music teacher and is raising money for Trust charity Blue Skies Hospitals Fund to benefit the Haematology Unit.
Ian Fletcher is arranging the event with sons Lucas, 11, and Owen, 8, in memory of Lucas' guitar teacher Phil Roberts who died from cancer last Easter.
Ian said: "We wanted to do something last year because Lucas' guitar teacher got lymph cancer and he wanted to do something at the school to help but he died before the event took place. My dad has now been diagnosed with the same cancer and our friend Darren lost his three year old recently so we decided to do the event this year and split the money between Blue Skies and Brian House.”
Ian and the two boys, who live in Cleveleys, are being helped by local boxer Brian Rose to promote the event. Ian continued: "Brian has been really supportive of the event and is promoting it a bit for us. It's nice that people like Brian have got involved and are supporting it.”
Brian, who is two times British light-middle weight champion, said: "I'm pleased to support a charity event like this and it's great to do something at home. I want to support the local community as much as possible and this cause is close to my heart.” Brian will be attending the event and will be signing autographs for fans.
Ian continued: "So many people have wanted to get involved including Fleetwood and Blackpool Football Clubs who have both been really good. People are really generous. Phil was in lots of bands himself so it seemed a fitting event to put on and he used to be in one of the bands who are playing at the event.
"Dad's doing really well and had the all clear at his last check up. Cancer affects everyone somewhere at some time so we wanted to get involved and raise some money.
"It's a real mixture of music and there is a 12 year old boy who is singing and the Anchorsholme School choir are coming down as well as some rock music. I'm really looking forward to it and praying that the weather will be nice. Everyone is welcome to come to the event and there will be sporting memorabilia and music memorabilia auctions.”
Lucas said: "Last year we did an event and raised about £5500. All my family and friends loved it last time. Dad decided to call it Eagle Fest this time because we are holding it at the Golden Eagle. I want to be a thrash metal rock star and my favourite band is Metallica at the moment.”
Fundraising Manager, Kathy Ancell said: "Eagle Fest is set to be a fantastic music event and will be a great day for the whole family. A big thank you to the Fletcher family, Brian Rose and all those who are supporting the event. The money raised will be used on the Haematology Unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital and will enhance patient care for all those who use the unit. We'd encourage everyone to go along and enjoy the day.”
Eagle Fest will take place this Saturday (23rd June) at the Golden Eagle, Warren Drive, Cleveleys from 12pm onwards and will include music from Smokin' Monkey, Jonny's Lunchbox, The Jeps, Black Pearl, Jekyll, Happy Daize and Matthew Peill. There will also be a magician and more family entertainment on the day including a bouncy castle and face painting.
