A tall building specialist has been appointed to take care of repairs at Blackpool Tower.
Scottish company Pendrich Height Services has been awarded a contract by Blackpool Council to maintain the Grade I-listed monument.
The initial contract will be until the end of March with an option to extend it for further 12 month periods up to four years.
Work on the structure, which the council bought in 2010, will include annual inspections and surveys of the iconic steelwork.
A council report says the authority “tendered for a suitably experienced and qualified structural engineering firm in order to undertake structural repairs” between January and March, during which time the Tower will at times be open to the public.
The contractor will be required to work closely with Merlin which operates the Tower on behalf of the council.
