10 year old child hit by a Blackpool tram

It's the second time in as many days that this has happened

There's calls for safety to be looked at after two children have been struck by a tram in a 48 hour period.

Police have confirmed a 10 year old boy was hit by a Blackpool tram on the promenade yesterday evening (29th August.)

On Tuesday night a 14 year old boy was caught under a tram and was taken to Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool in a serious condition.

A police spokesperson told Radio Wave it's believed the boy got out of car and ran straight to the beach, not seeing the oncoming tram.

He only suffered minor injuries.

Blackpool Council's Deputy Leader Gillian Campbell said this after the first incident on Tuesday:

" I did have a conversation with BTS yesterday, it is an ongoing investigation so I can't say too much about it.

"It is a concern, and I have agreed with Blackpool Transport that we will put more safety measures on when it's particularly busy like the switch on."
