Fleetwood explosion - what we know.

Reports suggest the loud bang could be heard as far away as Morecambe.

Police are appealing for information after an explosion at a nursing home in Fleetwood over the weekend.

Emergency services responded to reports of an explosion and some roads in the immediate vicinity were closed while police and partners dealt with the incident.

A local man has been spoken to and is assisting police with their enquiries but police say he has not been arrested.

It was initially feared there was two casualties but police now say nobody was seriously injured.

The cause of the explosion is unexplained and is under investigation.

A spokesperson for the police also thanked a local business for their efforts:

"Many thanks to the staff of 'Cakes N Shakes', Lindel Road, Fleetwood who very kindly supplied hot drinks to all the emergency services attending the incident.

"It was very cold and wet and the drinks were very much appreciated!"

Det Insp. James Edmonds, of West Police, said:

“We are in the early stages of an investigation into the circumstances of yesterday’s incident.

"We are working with our partners in the fire service to establish the cause of the explosion.

"This was a very serious incident which could have had catastrophic consequences for anyone who was in close proximity to the blast.
