'Missing Fisherman' walks into Blackpool shop to buy fishing gear

A man who's apparent disappearance triggered a 9 hour search and rescue operation is safe.

On Thursday (2nd Jan) a man was spotted fishing near the sandcastle water park on Blackpool's seafront.

Hours later a passer by noticed that the man was no longer there but discovered fishing equipment abandoned nearby.

A call was made to Police and emergency services launched a large scale search and rescue operation which included a helicopter.

The man was informed about the incident when he walked into Blackpool Angling Centre on Church Street on Saturday and questioned by a staff member.

The man was allegedly interviewed by police officers at the shop and they took a statement.

Lancashire Police were unable to confirm details about the story but did say the case is no longer being considered as ‘open’.
