Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP Paul Maynard is demanding answers from the council over its plans to close Devonshire Road Bridge for 15 weeks.
Major refurbishment work is to take place on the bridge from next week, but Paul reckons there'll be a significant impact on drivers and traders in the area.
Now he wants Council chiefs to tell him when the need for the work was first decided and why they've decided to carry out the repairs all summer.
The Council says there is no good time to do the work, but it's been timed so it doesn't impact on the Illuminations.
Mr Maynard said: ''I am concerned to hear Devonshire Road will be partly closed for 15 weeks to allow bridge works to be carried out. The safety of motorists and other travellers is of paramount importance but I recognise this will have a significant impact not only on drivers but on those who own businesses close to the site.
''I have asked Blackpool Council to explain to me precisely when the need for this extensive work was identified and why the decision was taken to carry out the repairs during Blackpool’s busiest months. Other significant bridge repair schemes have been carried out outside of the traditional ‘season’ and I am interested to know why such a common sense approach has not been applied in this case.
''I recognise this closure may have a significant impact on businesses on Devonshire Road and I am happy to meet with constituents to discuss the matter further.''
