New performing arts centre planned at Thornton school

A Thornton school is proposing to have a new  all purpose performing arts centre built on site.

Great Arley School, on Holly Road, plans to build the new block on spare land on the site, once it is cleared of existing timber playground furniture.
A design statement by Preston-based architects, Cassidy + Ashton states; “The overall appearance of the new classroom at Great Arley school will be of a modern contemporary design, with high quality construction materials, sympathetic to the character of the area.”
The new building would be equal in height to the main school premises.
Although it is intended that the new classroom would incorporate performing arts elements, which is already taught in the school, it will also be used as a ‘multi-purpose’ classroom.
An application has been lodged with planners at Wyre Council and is currently being considered.
The company says that building work would proceed immediately, once  the scheme had the approval of planners.
Great Arley School is a local authority maintained special school for children who are aged four to 16 years, with an in-take of pupils from across Wyre.
